5 reasons to shop from your wardrobe more… #NoBuyChallenge ??

Okay, so I have a confession to make: I’m a bit of a shopaholic. It probably has something to do with the fact that I’m a (part time) blogger, but over the past year I’ve found myself constantly buying new clothes. I had this moment a while back where I looked around my bedroom and just kind of thought “Whoa there, girl… you have waaaaaaaay too much stuff.” So what did I do? I set myself a challenge not to buy any new clothes for the whole of October (shocker, I know) and guess what? I absolutely smashed it. I’ve found myself really enjoying my #NoBuyChallenge, so I thought I’d share my top 5 reasons why shopping from your wardrobe is the best thing ever.

1. Because you’re stylish, not fashionable.

I’ve never been one to follow trends, but I’ve definitely fallen hard for some pieces which happened to be trending. It would be so easy, especially as a blogger to buy new stuff and simply stop wearing it when it’s no longer ‘cool’, but nah. I’m a firm believer in the fact that pieces that are ‘sooooo last season’ can still look super fresh depending on how you style ’em, and even if they don’t, who cares? We’re all about dressing for us, not for other people over here, so rather than buying new stuff just ’cause it’s the next big thing, try switching up last year’s fashions to create some cute new styles.

style is eternal.”

2. Because who has space for a whole new wardrobe?

I’ve recently had a clear-out (which is still on-going, btw), and I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to actually have… SPACE. I’m trying to make room to film because I’m in the process of trying to start up a YouTube Channel (watch this space…#NoPunIntended) and honestly, when it comes to buying new stuff, it’s really a case of ‘ain’t nobody got space for that. Even if you’re not trying to do create space for anything in particular, there’s something about decluttering your surroundings that declutters your mind as well. The ‘hard’ part? Not refilling the space you’ve made with new stuff, but trust me- when you master this, it’s sooooooo worth it.

3. Because you wanna save that coiiiiiiiiiiiiin, girl.

Don’t know about you guys, but nothing excites me more than saving a couple of quid. I’m the kind of person who gets irrationally excited when I get the last free parking spot and what better way to save money than… well, not actually spending any? Shopping from your wardrobe might not seem to save you much in the short-term, but try and make it more of a lifestyle choice than a fad and you’ll be surprised at how many things you can suddenly afford to do.

4. Because it’s more sustainable.

Not to toot my own horn (okay, maybe a little) but I’m a pretty savvy shopper when it comes to bargains. The average piece of clothing I own costs less than a tenner (the skirt I’m wearing was £8), and when everything’s so cheap ‘n cheerful, it’s super tempting to just buy, buy, buy. Doing the #NoBuyChallenge forces you to cut back on impulse purchases so when you do buy, it’ll be stuff you genuinely love… meaning less ‘why the heck did I buy this‘ pieces stashed at the back of your wardrobe. It’s estimated that around 300 000 tonnes of clothing is sent to UK landfill sites each year (yikes), so shopping from your wardrobe isn’t just good for you and your purse: the planet will thank you too. ?

5. Because you’ll enjoy the challenge.

There’s something super exciting about placing bets with yourself (or maybe I’m just a little bit sad), and it’s actually really fun playing mix and match with pieces you already have! I was blessed enough to be gifted this gorgeous blouse by Cameo Rose Clothing and I will admit that my first instinct as a shopaholic was to buy a whole new outfit. I managed to reign myself in though, so the blouse and boots are actually the only new items I’m wearing (my no buy challenge didn’t apply to footwear ’cause I actually needed some new boots). I’m pretty darn proud of myself for saving wardrobe space and saving money, plus, I think we can all agree that this outfit BANGS. ?

And with that lil’ banger of a snap, I think I’ll end things on a high note and sign off. See below for a sassy styling alternative if colour ain’t your thing, and leave a comment letting me know the best thing about shopping from your wardrobe.
