Check On It: How to make prints winter-worthy for girls who love a little bit of colour! ???

I’m sure I’m not the only colour lover who’s constantly looking for ways to inject some ‘bam!’ into my autumn/winter wardrobe… without it being too ‘in your face’. One of the best ways to do this? Go for poppin’ prints rather than solid blocks of colour, for a more subtle, laid-back vibe. In the words of Beyonce, when it doubt, ‘Check On It’… and since no one ever dares questions Queen B, I simply said ‘yes, maam!’ and put together an adorable semi-casual look, perfect for any fellow colour fan!

To get stuck straight in,  I popped on this beautiful Cameo Rose check shirt. This is the one to end every. other. check. shirt. you. have. ever. seen. in. your. life. Not only is it the best shade of yellow everrrrrrrrr (hello, mustard!), but it’s also the most beautiful quality! Being 100% cotton, it’s an absolute dream to wear, plus the fabric is that perfect balance of thickness where it keeps your bra firmly under wraps (don’t know about you, but I ain’t about that see-through life), but it’s also not sweat-inducing like some of those flannel ones you sometimes get *fans self frantically*. Being someone who likes surprises, I’m also here for the fact that it’s not actually a ‘tall’ piece… but it is pretty long, and the sleeves actually touch my wrists (rather than doing that awkward 3/4 length thing every tall girl knows (and LOATHES). I was lucky enough to be sent this by Cameo Rose and since sharing is caring, I’ve tracked it down for you on the New Look website- snap it up here! P.S. Lovely Cameo Rose ladies, this is for you! ?

Nothing complements mustard yellow better than a bit of blue,  so I reached for the denim dungaree dress featured in ‘Pin-Up Prints‘ (similar here). I did try to switch it up and do the whole denim dungaree thing, but girl… that ish was not working for me at all. I still think these would look super cute with this shirt though, so if they’re your style, then you should totally go for it! (One girl’s ‘honey, no’ is another girl’s ‘yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas, girl, SLAY!’ as they say). ? Back to the dress, I’ve had it probably since denim was invented (okay, I might be exaggerating a little) and it’s one of my forever faves! I really love the super feminine silhouette, and even though it’s got this kind of 90s vibe, indigo is one of those washes that never goes out of style! To emphasise my waist (and the lovely, sunny tones!), I also added this mustard suedette square buckle belt for an extra colour pop!

This look is super cute, but it’s definitely one of those ones that’s crying out for an outerwear piece, so I paired it with this lovely Bellfield fur trim coat! From the ‘goes with everything’ hue, to the elegant self-tie belt, I love everything about this… well, almost anyway. As you’ll know by now, I live and breathe for anything faux fur, so I kind of got a little overexcited when I set eyes on it… which meant I didn’t realise it was wool until I put it on and… my skin was quick to remind me (#Rude). Let’s just say my skin and wool kind of have the same level of beef as Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, so sadly the coat has to go back *sniffles*, but it was so gorgeous I thought I’d show it to you anyway!

To keep things nice ‘n neutral, I went for some winter whites and accessorised with the ring handle bag and kitten heel ankle boots featured in ‘Starry-Eyed‘.  I feel like white accessories have this way of giving pretty much any look a classy vibe, plus, even though it’s not an exact match, I love how they accentuate the icy tones on the coat collar! This pretty pair are currently sold out, but I’ve managed to find some style dupes, courtesy of eBay and Forever21, so you can slay in sassy style too!

They say you should save the best till last, and not being one to disappoint, I did just that! I think we can all agree that these adorable yellow check srunchies totally make this outfit, especially since they match the shirt P-E-R-F-E-C-T-L-Y! Side note: I really love how fluffy my hair buns are looking in these pics (thank you, African Threading!)- they kind of remind me of an oversized pair of ear muffs, or even those ear defenders you get when… never mind. Back on topic, let’s just say the scrunchies are my new favourite thing, and I have a feeling they’re going to be getting a lot of wear this winter. I bought mine from Boohoo and they’re currently sold out, but New Look have a near-identical version, so you can add a little ‘Clueless‘ vibe t0 your look too!

And there you have it- how to put a little ‘Check On It’ for a little mid-autumn colour pop! See below for alternatives to all of the pieces featured in this post, and if you like this look, don’t forget to leave a comment letting me know!

Much Love,
