‘Flower girl’: How to style a Slip Dress: The Spring Edition, plus my top 5 to grab right now! ???

As you may have guessed if you follow me on Instagram, I’m a bit of a flower fanatic. Pair this with my (relatively recent) obsession with pink, and it’s pretty easy to see why Spring is my new favourite season, and why during a recent trip to Primarni I fell in love with what can only be described as the dress of dreeeeeeeams. They may be sooooooo 90’s, but slip dresses are deffo making a comeback for SS19. Not being one to pass up on a good ol’ fashion throwback, I put together a look showing you how to style ’em for Spring, along with my top 5 picks for ladies who wanna serve a lil’ 90’s chic.

I’ll start off by introducing you to the star of the show: This gorgeous pink polka dot slip dress! I never believed in love at first sight until now- I adore polka dots anyway, but pair ’em with a dusky pink hue, scatter on some daisies, and I’m totally head over over heels. ? This dress is what I like to call ‘sute’ (half sexy, half cute)- on paper it’s adorable, but throw in a lil’ thigh slit and you’ve still got that hint of ‘ooh la la’ that stops you looking like a teenager (unless you’re totally okay with that, and decide to wear minnie mouse buns and put daisies in your hair, et moi). ?

Wanna be pretty in pink but aren’t much of a flower girl? This satin cowl neck midi dress might be just the thing for you! With its slinky satin fabric and sassy thigh slit, this is one style stunner you’ll never want to slip out of!

For those of you who like to flash more than just a tad of thigh, check out this fun’ & flirty mini from River Island. Featuring tropical print paired with muted pastel tones, it’s ideal for ringing in Spring without whipping out the summer brights just yet!

The best thing about slip dresses is they’re great base layers- perfect for slipping on under lighter outerwear pieces. It’s still kinda chilly at the moment (can summer please just hurry up already!?), so I popped on a bleached wash denim jacket (similar) to keep things nice ‘n toasty. I feel like a denim jacket is that staple piece every woman should have in her wardrobe- they’re super easy to style, and there’s something about light washes that instantly freshens up any look for Spring!

Not a huge fan of cover-ups? Why not layer up in this super sweet chocolate slip dress from Asos? It’s probs a bit late in the year for a turtleneck, but it would look SO gorge layered over a milkmaid top like this (plus, you’d be killin’ two trends in one look!)

No flower girl look would be complete without some matching accessories, so me being extra, I went a little overboard with the floral jewellery (#oops). I picked out these super cute daisy stud earrings, popped in some matching DIY hair pins, and slipped on a cute carved rose ring (kinda like this). Oooh… you can’t see it in this shot, but I’m also wearing this pressed flower necklace, which I absolutely love- it’s kinda like someone captured a little piece summer and put it in this tiny glass heart, and there’s something so very beautiful about that. ❤️

If like me you’re all about that matchy-matchy life, try styling jewelled blooms with this stunning maxi dress from ASOS! With its flowy fabric and summery hues, it’s every tall girl’s dream- just throw in a matching backdrop, and you’ll be Insta-worthy in no time!

To finish off, I grabbed the floral crossbody bag from ‘Magnopolitan’ (similar), and stepped into an old fashion fave: these adorable white wooden clogs, bought from Peacocks last year. I couldn’t get a close-up shot where they were lookin’ all pretty with the flowers (I would literally have had to lay on the floor with my feet in the air), but they’re pretty similar to these. Now I will admit it’s probs a bit early in the year to be getting the ol’ tootsies out, but white sandals are one of those ‘goes with everything’ options that’ll be total keepers for the warmer months!

If you’re stuck on what to wear with your white sandals, why not give this navy polka dot ‘midaxi’ dress a whirl? Pair with a red double circle belt and a slick of red lipstick for classy vintage vibes.
