‘Oh, Howdy’: How to style the western trend with 5 key pieces from your current winter wardrobe

Well, it looks like the Western trend is still alive and kickin’ and being a huge fan of all things animal-inspired, I can’t say I’m too upset about this news. I’ve been seeing Western buckles, tassels and wide-brim hats all over my Insta feed, so I decided to put my own spin on things and serve you a little monochromatic piece of the Wild West with this look, ft. some of the faves from my current winter wardrobe.

Oh, howdy! Servin’ those sassy cowgirl vibes like…

1) The satin jumpsuit

Not the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Western fashion, but I thought I’d switch things up to keep you guessing! I’d actually bought this to wear in summer, but I’m trying to be a more conscious shopper, so I figured why not make it inter-seasonal by layering it up? I love that the colours go with the whole cow-print theme, and I’ll definitely be wearing it bare-armed when the sun finally turns up!

2) The roll neck jumper

Ah, the roll neck – the perfect solution for when it’s cold out, but you don’t fancy lugging around a scarf, it’s no surprise that pretty much every woman has one in her wardrobe! I dressed this one up as part of an NYE outfit, but the thing I love about it is that it’s super easy to dress down for everyday looks too (yes, this is totally an everyday look for me). I layered up the gold chains from this post and added some chunky pearl hoops for a hint of edge.

3) The faux fur coat

It’s no secret that I’m a huge faux fur fan, so of course I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to feature the newest addition to my collection in this look! I did consider splashing out on a cow print number, but wanted to make the accessories ‘pop’, so I kept things simple instead. If I had to pick just one faux fur piece, I’d say a black coat is definitely the way forward – there’s something about black that gives off ‘fabulous, rich aunty’ vibes, plus it’s easy to pair with anything.

4) The wide brim hat

Not gonna lie – I do love a good wide brim hat. They’re super warm and easy to hide under, plus, they’re the quickest way to add a instant sass to any outfit! When it comes to brim sizes, I’d say the wider, the better personally…  just a couple of things to watch out for if you don’t already own one: make sure you get one that’s kind of stiff (you don’t want it constantly flopping into your eyes) and look out for the sizing. As a lady with a fivehead, I can tell you that one size, most certainly does not fit all #SorryNotSorry.

5) The cow print accessory

Cow print’s been trending for a hot minute, and would any Western outfit really be complete without it? I think not. I must admit, I was on the fence when this trend first burst (or trotted? Nvm…) onto the scene, but I think I’ve figured out a way to rock it without… y’know, looking like the real deal. I prefer to go for smaller accessories which can be mixed and matched with loads of different ‘fits, but if you’re one of those gals who’s invested in a cow print outerwear piece (or two), you can always throw that on with the other bits I mentioned earlier instead.

Much Love
