Pretty Picnic Pieces to Style in the Summer Sun

So I’ve heard the sun’s meant to be back this week (I mean, it’s about time – he’s had what, like… a three week holiday?) and one of my favourite things about gorgeous summer weather is spending time outside, especially now that y’know… we’re actually allowed to. I’m all about the simple things in life and what better way to enjoy one of summer’s simplest pleasures than a good ol’ picnic? This time around I thought I’d share some of my favourite picnic-inspired pieces with you, so you can eat, drink and get beautifully bronzed skin in the great outdoors in style.

Picnic in the park: The style edition

Nothing beats sunning yourself on a pretty picnic blanket, but what if I told you could actually wear one as welll? Yup, I’m talking about this absolute darling of a dress – I snapped her up during the earlier stages of lockdown and have been dying to take her for a whirl, so when Mr Sun popped his head out for few hours, I could resist taking some snaps. From the cute gingham pattern to the feminine sweetheart neckline, there’s something about it that’s just oh-so-vintage, which I absolutely love. I bought mine from Everything £5 (can you believe it!?) and she’s currently out of stock in most sizes, but you can snap her up for a couple more coins here or here

Is any sweetheart neckline complete without some statement jewellery? I don’t think so, and this gorgeous gal from Bill Skinner Studio (gifted) was the perfect pairing. Bees and pearls are my absolute faves of all time, so I fell in love with this the minute I saw it. I said it in my last post, but Bill Skinner Jewellery is just SO beautiful; you can tell from the attention to detail that they spend time studying the life forms which are featured in their jewellery (I mean, doesn’t this bee look like it could just come to life?)… as someone who adores and is really inspired by nature, I’m totally here for that. The necklace is currently sold out on the Bill Skinner website, but check out my alternative link below, or grab this similar one. You can also shop the rest of the bee-au-tiful range here.

To keep the buzz around the necklace (pun totally intended), I went for a super simple pair of pearl stud earrings. I won’t go into too much detail with these (I feel like they’re pretty self-explanatory), but I feel like every woman needs a pair of pearl studs. They’re such an easy way to complete an outfit as they’re one of those classic ‘goes with everything’ pieces that never goes out of style.

Now time for a bit of arm candy and there’s nothing like a lil’ basket bag to sweeten the deal. I got this cutie on eBay last year and I’m still totally in love! It’s one of those pieces that’s definitely a whole mood on its own – everytime I use it, I feel like (not so) Little Bo Peep and just want to frolic through the fields singing folk songs in a pretty, white prairie dress… is this just me? Swipe to see a close-up snap – such a natural beauty, eh?

To finish off the look, I popped on these gorgeous ankle tie wedges, another early lockdown purchase… sigh. Wedges to me are the perfect picnic shoe – super cute and summery, but also oh-so comfy, plus they come without the worry of sinking down until you’re ankle deep in mud/grass… ew. I bought these as a kind of ‘black girl nude’ shoe (because when you’re brown skinnned, nudes are kinda difficult to find) and they’re not the perfect match, but they’re close enough. I love how the ankle tie detail adds an touch of ballet chic as well.

And voila – pretty picnic pieces for you to style when next the sun hits (today, according to BBC weather).
