Starry-eyed ??

This week we’ve had our very first cold snap, and not gonna lie- I may have got just a teeny bit gleeful when I opened my window first thing in the morning, and that crisp, fresh air hit me in the face… Aaaaaah. We may only just be into autumn, but if you’ve been keeping up with my posts, you’ll know that jumping the gun when it comes to transitional styling is totally my thing. Inspired by cooler temperatures and beautiful night skies (you know how the stars just seem so much brighter in winter?), I thought I’d put together a chilled look featuring constellation detailing and some gorgeous icy hues.

I started off with these lovely striped culottes, bought from H&M a little while back (similar here). Culottes were the next big thing for SS18, and being one of those girls who buys clothes as a long-term love and not a fashion fling, of course I found a way make them work for the new season. Want to make yours winter-worthy? Your best bet is to either go for warm, autumnal shades, or cooler hues with simple patterns; I chose this navy pinstriped pair as they’re pretty neutral, plus, stripes are such a classic so they can be dressed up or down. The best thing about culottes? Their comfort factor. Say goodbye to that super-tight pair of skinnies, and hello to their slouchy, wide-leg sisters- now you can run for the bus without having to worry about whether or not the seams will hold up (phew!)

Working on up, I felt like I needed a plainer piece to really make those pinstripes pop, but being a bit of a magpie, it couldn’t be too plain… obviously. This embellished blouse was just the thing; I love the super soft chiffon fabric, not to mention the stud detailing kind of fits in with the whole constellation theme, right? No? Ok, I may be reaching a little. Since I tend to be in-between sizes the culottes were a tad big on the waist, so I added a white western double buckle belt to keep my (non-existent) abs firmly under wraps (similar here).

I was going more for the ‘ice queen’ look than the whole ‘frostbite queen’ vibe, so outerwear was a necessity. I bought this baby blue beauty from H&M mid-summer, and it’s becoming apparent that I may have just a slight problem with my faux suede biker obsession (oopsie!) Pastels may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of winter, but this piece was far too pretty to stash at the back of my wardrobe for a whole year. Biker jackets like this are a transitional style must-have- perfect for that slightly cooler weather when you’re not quite ready to dig that winter coat out just yet.

Since there’s no such thing as too much sparkle, I thought I’d accessorise with a few statement pieces, starting with this beautiful pearl-embellished choker featured in ‘Pearl Girl‘. I felt like it really tied in with the colour pallette, plus the pearls against the indigo fabric were giving me a ‘stars in the night sky’ vibe. To play this up, next I popped on these stunning silver star earrings from Amazon. I love how they put such a fun spin on the classic hoop earring, but they’re still simple enough to style with just about any anything. I managed to find a near-identical pair which are silver-plated for my sensitive-eared sisters, ’cause we all know there’s nothing like finding some gorge earrings which make your ears itch like crazy (ugh!) With all that starriness going on, I needed a matching hairstyle so naturally I went for these adorable space buns (hello, princess Leila!) You can’t beat a basic bun (or two!), but being a little extra I also added some silver hair jewellery to really level up this look.

You know that song ‘these boots are made for walking’? I’m pretty sure it’s talking about my latest pair of little white boots. I know I said the Missguided ones from this post were super comfy, but… well, it turns out these (s)hoes ain’t loyal, so I was on the lookout for a replacement. Boohoo certainly came through with these sassy stunners; featuring a star zip detail and patent finish with just a touch of monochrome magic, these are the perfect combo of class and sass in a shoe. Apart from the whole ‘match made in heaven’ thing with my earrings, I was surprised at how easy to wear (and walk in) these were, especially for a 3.5 inch heel! To finish off, I went for white on white and grabbed this ring handle shoulder bag from New Look. White accessories are great for bringing a look together without being overpowering, and I really love how the handle detail takes it from high street to high fashion.

And voila- how to nail transitional season style by adding a little ice to your colour palette! See below for alternatives to all of the pieces featured in this post, and if this look has left stars in your eyes, don’t forget to let me know in the comments below! ⭐

Much Love,
